My Story
On September 21st 2013 my life as it was to that point ended with 5 bullets and grenade shrapnel as I became another statistic of mindless terrorism at the Westgate Mall.
As deliverance came to me in the form of a towering figure in a Red Cross tabard I realized that this was not the end but my rebirth and through a sedated haze I could see myself standing up and declaring to the world – I AM ALIVE and I WILL BE THE FIRST PERSON TO MAKE MY WORLD A PEACEFUL HOME. Guns, grenades and hate were my baptism by fire into what would be my resolve to stand tall and strong advocating for togetherness and kinship under any and all adversity.
My life was handed back to me by my mum and dad’s prayers and the selfless, courageous Kenya Red Cross crew that rushed me to the MP Shah hospital for critical medical assistance under threat of constant gunfire as they evacuated me and my fellow victims from what would have been certain death.
It is said that the strongest Trees grow in the fiercest wind – and my wind had come and gone leaving me scarred but stronger.
About Trees for Peace
Trees for Peace is an initiative I have started to create a physical presence of a Peace Movement, one that is tangible and more importantly, one that has a lasting and sustainable impact on us as the great Kenyan Family. A Tree transcends all cultural, ethnic and political divides by casting a comforting shade over all who gather under it in the common quest of conflict resolution and greater goodness for all.
When planting a tree, we jot down our fears and desires on a tiny slip of paper and place it at the bottom of the hole upon which we then plant a tree, refill the planting hole with the soil and our emotions and finally drench the seedling with water and our expectant hopes.
Nature, in all its glory then assures that the seedling we have planted and nurtured becomes a beacon of the greater good in mankind.
This is a TREE FOR PEACE.
The importance of Trees is well documented in all Religious Scriptures and beliefs and that places them at the very pinnacle of Creation and indeed our perception of these majestic sentinels must be re-awakened and given the importance for which they were created.
The dream is to plant unlimited Trees for Peace across the Globe
